BUIDING ECONOMICS

This module provides an overview of the Quantity Surveyor’s role during the pre-tender stage of a development. The students will be introduced to practical situations of the various methods of controlling the cost of buildings at the design stage. Students also will be introduced to the relationship between building morphology, design variables and life cycle costing of a building. Students are also given the opportunity to learn and apply information technology in the cost planning.
BE & DE WORKSHOP
This is a 2 days workshop conducted by Ms. Eugenie Lip from KPK Singapore. During this assignment, we are teamed up together with the Semester 6 student and we are required to prepare the proposal and presentation.

We were assigned as the Multidisciplinary group of consultants and a client would like to hear our proposal on a piece of land in Singapore. It is a mix development land. The client would like to hear what would be the construction cost, the total development cost of the land, the pay back and what design assumptions our team have put into the design. No drawings are needed but simply illustrations to show block models (using ppt) is sufficient to produce sectional illustrations. Our presentation shall be limited to 15 minutes with 15 minutes for Q&A.

Learning Outcome
In this assignment, we need to be able to prepare the presentation, approach to the calculations of construction cost and total development cost, including presentation styles and ability to answer questions. Besides that, I was able to put theories that I learnt during lectures and tutorials into implementation as I was able to understand the contributions in each role in construction industry and the major considerations made that would go into the capital cost.

Morever,this assignment help us to develop and reinforce our thinking and problem solving skills by thinking critically
in order for us to overcome each hurdles that we faced while accomplishing the project.When we face the difficult
things or problem,we can able to solve it.

Communication is the necessity for this assignment because this is a group assignment, we need to
communicate with other group member and discuss the details and contents of the proposal and presentation It can improve our communicated skills and promote our relationship.
