This module provides students the basic knowledge on preparation of quantities taking off, preparation of rate build up and preparation of bill of quantities by using QS computer software like CostX and Buildsoft.
Group Assignment
The aim of project is to expose students to different types of software programs available in the construction market and their limitations in usage. We are required to prepare a report on the functions and limitation of QS computer software in the market.

Learning Outcome
In ths assignment, I was able to put theories that I learnt during lectures and tutorials into practice. I can
understand the function of different software like CostX and Buildsoft and able to use it. I also learn that there are different types of QS software used in the market and have each reason to used it.
Morever,this assignment help us to develop and reinforce our thinking and problem solving skills by thinking
critically in order for us to overcome each hurdles that we faced while accomplishing the project.When we face
the difficult things or problem,we can able to solve it. When we don't know what the information of that
building , we try to find out ourselves and search through the internet and library book.
Communication is the necessity for this assignment because this is a group assignment, we need to
communicate with other group member and discuss the details and contents of the assignment. It can improve our communicated skills and promote our relationship.
Task
Our group consist of 4 members lead by Amy Ku. The BIM computer software that we focused on is CostX, Buildsoft, Innovya and Glodon. In conclusion, we have recommended CostX as they have developed a practical, comprehensive, innovative andstate-of-the-art cost estimating software that is being used by many estimators today.
Individual Assignment
In this project, I was required preparing a set of bill of quantities which is external finishes by using Buildsoft . This project aims to develop the student’s technical knowledge in software application.
