The module intends to introduce students to academic research and provide some in-depth understanding of the research methodology. Students are required to undertake and submit a substantial piece of independent research work which consists of both recording and analyzing of data or the summary of published materials on the topic supplemented by opinion gathered through interviews or questionnaires. In exceptional cases original ideas and innovative applications may be developed. Students are to negotiate a project title and specification with their supervisor. After an initial period of background work, they carry out the necessary work to complete their dissertation. The dissertation should be a demonstration of effective research combined with clear and concise presentation of between 10,000 to 12,000 words

Learning Outcome:
In this project, I was able to put theories that I learnt during lectures and tutorials into implementation as I am able
to identify issues, problems and areas of research methodology, identify relevant data and information required for
the research, develop data collection techniques, design research process and prepare research analysis. Not only
that, we also learnt to seek information from a variety of sources, open to new ideas and have the capacity for
self-directed learning, look for alternative ideas and solutions, present information and express ideas clearly, effectively and confidently and act ethically with integrity and social responsibility.

It also requires us to use ICT and related technologies effectively. This is because we have use various sources such as books, journal articles, etc. from the internet in order for us to search and find for relevant information that is based on our topic. ​​

Research Objective:
Abstract
Quantity surveying is an important discipline in the construction industry. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been suggested by several professionals and researchers as the universal remedy to addressing the inefficiencies in the construction industry. This is due to it has the potential to revolutionize construction process in the way how buildings are designed, analyzed, constructed and managed. Several disciplines including quantity surveying profession are being extensively impacted by the emergence of BIM as BIM offers numerous advantages to the quantity surveying practices. Thus, it is vital to a QS graduates equipped with the software skills and also the employers expect graduates to possess. However, BIM adoption level in quantity surveying practice is comparatively less due to some of its current limitations and challenges. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to develop a clear understanding about BIM for identifying the acceptance of BIM software in quantity surveyors’ consultancy firms as well as the barriers and also benefits of BIM that provide useful information to consider implementing BIM technology by practitioners in Malaysia. Next, the paper describes questionnaire data from a survey which is the quantitative approach from the consultancy firm on BIM adoption, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers. It was found the BIM benefit that got top raking according to overall respondents is earlier and more accurate visualizations. On the other hand, the study findings illustrates that the top barrier to BIM adoption in Malaysia from the point view of the respondents is the high initial capital investment. In order for successfully adoption BIM in Malaysia, all the parties involved need to patient with BIM implementing process and must act positively toward the necessary change.
